26 September 2000 - Tuesday - Gdansk

On September, 3rd at 15:00 Antica sailed into the Gdansk marina, ending this way her voyage to the two Americas. She has been navigating for 2 years, 2 months and 22 days.

Last stage from New York to Port Rush in Ireland took her 40 days. Then she sailed through very picturesque Caledonian Channel in Scotland and famous lake Loch Ness. After leaving Scotland Antica went through Skagerrak and Kattegat to Frederikshaven in Denmark. Two-day stop in this harbor was spent on fixing Antica's look.

At 25.08.00 assisted by a Danish military vessel we entered Helsingor, the port at the foot of Hamlet's castle, where the military orchestra was waiting for us on the peer. We were the special guests of the Baltic Sail Helsingor. After this event we went to sea visiting, on our way to Gdansk, Bornholm and a beautiful Christianso island.

At noon on September, 3 being assisted by our friends' yachts we entered Nowy Port and the marina in the old city of Gdańsk, where the presidents of Gdańsk, our families and friends were awaiting us. Antica was honored with yet another awards.

The crew consisted of young people from the "Antica" foundation - Ania and Tomek. Tomasz Szmigiel from New York came along as well as the members of my family Magda, Mirek and Jerry.

Having arrived Antica became so to say besieged having visitors from numerous groups of friends and fans.

What's next ? - for the time being last cruises around Gdańsk Bay. In a month, for the wintertime, Antica will be taken to Górki Zachodnie to undergo the repairs. It is most probable that she won't leave Europe for the next to years acting the role of an ambassador of the city of Gdańsk in a few meetings of old-timers. There is also going to be an expedition to the Gott Channel and the voyage around Ireland and Greenland.

Having this occasion I'd love to give thanks to all those who helped to organize this expedition as well as to all the web surfers who have visited our site and to those who showed us their liking.

Capt. Jurek W±sowicz
