8 July 2000 - Saturday - Atlantic Ocean - 42' 57'' N , 61' 35'' W

Having left New York Antica started heading for New Scotland which took three days and nights. About 300 miles from New York we entered a four-day silence.

However frustrating a situation like this may seem for any sailor, this very brake had its interesting moments. We had a chance of watching several sunfish from very close and for an hour we were receiving a humbac whale which was posing for photos putting its mouth very close to the ship's side. It was making numerous evolutions around the yacht showing off its glamour.

Yesterday morning the wind came back improving our moods. We were able to sail 100 miles a day. This night at about 01:30 I ran into the sleeping whale. I was scared to death and also was the whale. As a result of the crash there was much water on board and the whale swam away very quickly, in glimmering with algae water.
